Competitions

Student competitions are particularly well placed to motivate students to explore economic connections in a creative way; to reflect on economic and economic policy decisions; and to form their own opinions as well as asking themselves plausible questions.

econo=me competition

The German Handelsblatt newspaper and the Flossbach von Storch Foundation launched the nationwide competition econo=me in 2015 under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Taking place annually, it is aimed at students from all types of German schools from year 7. IÖB plays an active role as a didactic partner in the competition, developing a range of material for the competition, including the tasks and the content; it is also responsible for the organisation of the jury meeting, including preparing the content, setting up and conducting the meeting. The topics have significant potential to be linked to the curriculum and are particularly relevant to the everyday lives of young people. School groups participating in the competition have the chance of winning attractive material prizes, class or course trips and a spectacular award ceremony above the rooftops of Cologne.
